The Makaton Charity worked with the Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum of Childhood to create a display called 'Welcome to Our World… Living with Autism', which was open to the public from mid-2010 to mid-2011.
This thought-provoking display explored life through the eyes of children with autism.
Makaton symbols and signs for 'listen', 'look', and 'read' provided cues for the different display panels in the windows. A poster highlighted that many children with autism use Makaton symbols and signs.
The display showed how the senses of sight and hearing can impact on the daily lives of children with autism. It was organised in collaboration with The National Autistic Society and assisted by The Makaton Charity.
