Biography
About me:
I am a fully licenced Makaton Tutor offering training face to face across Peterborough and the Fens and online.
For my day job I am an OFSTED registered childminder working with children from birth to 11 years.
I have been registered since 2004 and have been graded by OFSTED as OUTSTANDING continuously from 2008 to my latest inspection in 2022. (Prior to 2008 I was graded good which at the time was the highest grade awarded)
My partner John joined me in January 2010 and we thoroughly enjoy our job helping children to learn and develop and be the best that they can be in a homely welcoming environment.
I use Makaton in my setting with ALL children, and can testify that it helps children communicate from a young age, before they have aquired spoken language which eases frustration and helps with behaviour. I strongly believe that using Makaton within my setting with all children regardless of whether there is a specific learning need has helped promote early langauge acquisition.

Interested in:
Running and promoting the benefits of Makaton!
Having not run since I left school, and even then I'd avoid it if I could I joined a Couch to 5K running group in 2016 and haven't looked back.
At the age of 49 as we were coming out of Covid restrictions I took on my first marathon and enjoyed running Virtual London Marathon. I took on the challenge again at 50 and knocked 15 minutes off my previous time, even though I hadn't trained sufficiently due to injury. (Not a running injury either, I put my knee out at soft play whilst working haha!)
I'm not fast but I enjoyed every step and I'm looking forward to my next challenge. :-)
