Public Liability (PL) insurance is insurance against damages awarded to the public due to injury or damage to their property (or body) caused by you or your business. Public Liability insurance will cover accidental injury and cover you if you damage third party property while on business.
All Makaton Tutors working in a freelance capacity must have adequate PL insurance. Tutors working for their employers or other public service providers should check that they have PL insurance through their employer.
As a licensed Makaton Tutor it is your responsibility to ensure that you and others are not put at risk by your activities. The law requires you to identify hazards and risks, and protect yourself and others as far ‘as reasonably practicable’.
